Electronic tuning specialist Superchips has announced an ECU remap for the popular R56 Mini Cooper S Turbo, introducing a power boost that those who find even the 'phase two' model with its improved engine a little lacking.

Designed specifically for the R56 Mini Cooper S Turbos produced during and after March 2010 onwards, the remap program for the on-board engine management computer takes the standard 181bhp 1.6-litre turbocharged engine and increases the power by 25bhp while adding 32Nm of torque.

To achieve this boost, the company analyst the car's Bosch MED 17 ECU and carried out extensive dyno testing and on-road assessments, before producing its own tweaked program for the system that increases the overall power available from the engine.

While improved power is always welcome, a drop in efficiency is always a risk - but Superchips claims that its power boost is economic, too, with no change to the car's 48mpg fuel economy as a result of the remap.

The 25bhp power increase has been measured at 5,444rpm, although the company claims that the power boost offered by the remap can be felt as low as 2,000rpm. Peak torque at 3,765rpm is boosted by 32Nm, with lesser improvements throughout the 3,000-6,000rpm range, claims Superchips.

The company has announced that it is ready to install the remap on all compatible models immediately, from its range of eighty dealers across the UK. Pricing is set at £455 including VAT.
